String of Pearls (Senecio Rowleyanus) is a trailing beauty well sought after. This is a succulent variety like no other with its long and slender green stems upon which sit a cascade of green pearl-shaped leaves. Its leaves grow on trailing stems, which hang down the sides of the pot and can extend up to two feet down if left alone. Its natural habitat are the deserts of East Africa. In addition to its unique foliage, string of pearls can produce tiny white flowers with bright-colored stamens.
If cared for correctly, this trailing succulent will grow quickly. It makes a great house plant and is a real eye-catcher with the interest and texture of the leaves cascading downwards. Just be sure to position it on a high shelf to allow the stems to trail down.
String of Pearls grow well in bright - indirect light, or early morning sun. Too many hours of direct sunlight causes this plant to sunburn easily.
Water thoroughly but infrequently. Allow for at least the top half of its soil to dry before watering. That, or notice when the pearls begin to shrivel up. This is a good indication that your plant is in need of water.
